What are the regulations on the concentration of peroxide for teeth whitening products?
In Australia, teeth whitening products and services are regulated by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and the Australian Dental Association (ADA). According to the TGA, only dental professionals, such as dentists and dental hygienists, are allowed to provide teeth whitening services using products that contain more than 6% hydrogen peroxide or 18% carbamide peroxide. Over-the-counter teeth whitening products, such as toothpaste and gels, are also regulated by the TGA and are limited to a maximum of 6% hydrogen peroxide or 18% carbamide peroxide.
