Why is a silicone mouth opener better for teeth whitening than plastic?
Silicone is considered to be a better material for a teeth-whitening mouth tray than plastic because it is more flexible and moldable. This allows for a more comfortable and secure fit in the mouth, which can help to prevent the whitening agent from leaking out or coming into contact with the gums. Additionally, because silicone is a more durable material than plastic, it is less likely to warp or lose its shape over time, which can lead to a less effective whitening treatment.
Another advantage of silicone is that it is more heat-resistant than plastic, which means it can be sterilized by boiling or autoclaving, and therefore can be reused multiple times. Furthermore, silicone is also a more biocompatible material than plastic, it does not contain any harmful chemicals, does not release any toxic fumes when heated and does not cause any allergic reactions.
It is important to note that not all silicone mouth trays are created equal, the quality of the silicone material, moulding and design are also important factors that can affect the effectiveness of the whitening treatment.
